Cliffe Bonfire Guy Fawkes Night 2024

What a wonderful event that so many within our villages were able to enjoy, it was great to see so many of our parishioners coming together, of all ages to celebrate a great evening amongst friends, family and neighbours.

The Parish Council would like to express their gratitude and thanks as this couldn’t have happened without the hard work and dedication of the organisers in The Cliffe Village Events Team as well as the many volunteers in both the planning and delivery of this wonderful event for our villages.

After all the hard work, from 3pm the Guys started to arrive, with some arriving not long before the judging began. Sixteen entries were received, the effort and time spent putting together this collection was clear to see. It was hard for the judges to pick our winners with so many fantastic guys and a great mix of both creativity and humour adding to the fun!

The entertainment & music from Shades of Grey kept the mood and spirits high, dancing and singing along in front of the band’s booth was notable – they also provided countdowns to both the lighting of the bonfire as well as the start of the firework display while providing updates and relevant announcements as the evening progressed.

With the Six Bells bringing their fully stocked horse box bar, drinks were readily available. The BBQ proved ever so popular, so much so they eventually sold out of burgers, fortunately with hot dogs, toffee apples & hot chocolate also available there was plenty to fill any remaining empty stomachs. Glow sticks once again proved extremely popular providing a safer option and more fun alternative to the sparklers and meant our support ambulances were able to breathe a little easier.

The Bonfire was impressive, an enormous pile which following the judging was adorned with the 16 guys. The team that got it ready, those that helped marshal the area and those that got it started can certainly be proud of their efforts. This was only surpassed by the firework display itself!

Starting off with a bang and the eerie sounds of the war of the worlds theme tune, the explosions of colours as the fireworks got going had the crowd mesmerised. All eyes were skywards with the backdrop of London Gateway, the marshes and the bonfire providing a spectacular scene. Katy Perry’s Firework & Take That’s Relight my Fire both memorable accompaniment to the light show being set off with considerable skill by the crew below.

Thanks to all that made donations towards the fireworks on the night, and it is great that this was a free event, it is this generosity that helps support our village events and to help make them better each year. If you would like to be involved or can volunteer for next year’s event, please do reach out to the Cliffe Village Events Team via their Facebook page CliffeVillageEventsTeam
