Responsible Finance Officer (RFO)

Role Overview: We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Responsible Finance Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will manage the council's financial affairs, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and promoting fiscal responsibility.

Location: Home working. Attendance required at approx. three meetings per month in the Parish of Cliffe and Cliffe Woods.

Salary: Competitive, based on experience. Home/mileage allowance paid plus fully funded CPD.

Hours: Part-time approx. 30 hours per month (flexible working hours).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and annual accounts.
  • Manage payroll, VAT returns, and audit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices.
  • Advise the council on financial matters and strategy.

Personal Attributes:

  • Proven experience in finance or accounting, preferably within the public sector.
  • Strong understanding of local government finance regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A relevant finance qualification is desirable.
